User Reviews Movie Star Wars: the Force AwakensThis comment is more about the rating rather than the movie. I have read a virtual galaxy of reviews on this site about SW:TFA. I literally read page after page after page of reviews. Now, I realize that IMDb has a specific methodology for their ratings system, but for the life of me I can't see how SW:TFA is currently getting an 8.8 rating given the huge number of user reviewers that I read that give this movie five or fewer stars. I mean it literally must be a solid third or more of the reviews I read gave the movie an awful rating. Many as low as one star. To my mind, it calls into question the rating system used by IMDb.
It's obvious to me that any true Star Wars fans would be woefully disappointed in this movie, save for its technical execution. But the larger issue is the ratings system itself. Without making any tempting (and unfounded) accusations, I will simply say this: I use IMDb primarily to research and find good films. While I would never judge a movie solely by its rating, up until now I can say that the ratings I've seen for most movies on this site that I've watched have been pretty close to where I would have rated the movies myself. In short, they made sense and I could trust them. But based on the reviews I read for SW:TFA I simply can't trust the overall rating given. I hope this does not extend to other films, or it would hurt IMDBs credibility in my mind. Which would be unfortunate because I think IMDb is such a great site and fantastic resource for film lovers.
